CHESS COACHING
Chess coaching is available to all students Friday mornings from 7.45 cost is per term or you can pay yearly for a discounted rate. Qualified chess teachers guide the children through chess moves and strategies. Inquires can be made at the office for this worthwhile program. Students (Bardon Bishops) are invited to participate in competitions and tournaments extra cost will be incurred for these events.

Children involved in Intermediate and Advanced coaching are invited, along with other interested children and parents.

Resource Centre and Digi Tech Lab
The school Resource Centre is a valuable asset that provides access to a range of technologies, books and resources in an air conditioned environment. Students can borrow books, use the computers and enjoy activities every morning from 8.30am and at most lunch breaks. The library is closed after school.

Children of all year levels are encouraged to borrow books regularly from the Resource Centre at borrowing times and during the lunch hour. Resources are borrowed for a two week period, however they can be returned at any time before their due date. Loan extensions may be obtained by reprocessing borrowed items back through the centre.

To help protect library books, each child must have a waterproof library book bag, measuring approximately 40 x 30 cm. (Please refer to the booklist)

You can instil a love and respect for books and reading by:

  • Reading to your child regularly
  • Having a safe place to keep library books when at home
  • Reminding your child when their books need to be returned
  • Returning books promptly to the library to be mended if they are damaged

We value our collection of resources and trust that you and your children will help us to maintain it.

DIGI Tech Lab and DIGI Hubs
During 2016 we developed the Digi Tech lab in our Resource Centre. With support from our P & C fundraising we also established Digi Hubs in all learning areas. These are key resource for all students to access during Digi Tech specialist lessons, lunch times and other class times.

Students access iPads, laptops and interactive whiteboards in their classrooms and the Resource Centre to build skills to interact and effectively use technology to support and enhance their learning.

The STEAM room
Under development.
Currently we have a stunning but underutilised Stage area that we want to develop into a hub for Science and The Arts. We are hoping that in the near future we will be able to extend the existing building to house a new STEAM area at the rear of the stage. The area along with our current stage would create the new STEAM precinct.

Currently many of our Visual Arts lessons and performances are hosted at the stage area including;

  • Bardon’s Got Talent
  • Arts Evening
  • End of Year Concert

The Early Year’s Precinct
With assistance from our State Government we will be developing under C Block as an Early Years Precinct in 2017. The area will be resurfaced and semi-enclosed to; allow for an additional interactive learning space, provide additional storage for the Early Years Motor Program equipment and revitalise a currently underutilised space for our learners.

In addition to that, we hope to be able to recarpet and repaint classroom in C Block to further enhance the Early Years Precinct.

Sporting Facilities
As part of the Federal Government’s Building Education Revolution Program the school built a Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Complex called “The Bird Cage”. This complex not only provides the school with a tremendous indoor facility for various aspects of the Physical Education Program but also provides additional court space for netball, basketball and tennis away from the quirks of the Brisbane weather.
The school currently hires The Birdcage to a range of community endeavours.

Children also have access to our own oval on the banks of Ithaca Creek, a second Tennis Court adjacent to the oval, Adventure Playgrounds, an Undercover Games Area for Physical Education Lessons skipping activities and ballgames. These outstanding facilities are in addition to the general play areas within the grounds.

Playgrounds
Specifically designed playgrounds have been developed by the P & C to support the enjoyment and physical development of the children. The P-3 playground consists of a large sandpit, fort and climbing equipment for gross motor and imaginative play. This playground feeds on to the top oval allowing for multiple choices of activities for our lower years students

During 2015 the P & C redeveloped the senior playground to reinvigorate the space. It now is a multi-level play space that promotes imaginative play.

In 2016 a complete refurbishment of the school oval was completed to create a safe, secure and high quality play environment for our students. New soccer goals now frame the fully irrigated oval along with the new cricket pitch.

Our school has a community partnership with Valleys Cricket Club. This positive partnership will assist to continue to maintain the high quality of the oval and establish new cricket net facilities in the near future. It also is providing a place for our students and others to enjoy their Saturday game on our oval.

External Hire Agreements
We have developed partnerships with a range of community providers to utilise our school facilities through hire agreements. This benefits our school, enables our students to engage in extension and enrichment activities on site and provides a facility to our community at a reasonable rate.
These include:

  • Speak Up – Drama
  • YMA – instrumental and vocal lessons
  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Boot Camp
  • Soccer

Hire agreements can be sought through the school Principal.
