On behalf of the Bardon State School community, I extend to new parents a very warm welcome.

Bardon State School is a vibrant school, a school that epitomises the community spirit of Bardon, a school which seeks to maximize each child's potential in a secure, supportive, challenging and family environment of "Love, Laughter and Learning".

Whilst education has always played an important role in society, that role is even more important in today’s ever-changing world. Schools today need to develop in children an ever increasing range of skills, attitudes and knowledge base that will encourage them to be life long learners.

Bardon State School has, since 1948, established itself as a leader and innovator in the educational arena. A tradition we are proud of and we continue to build upon. Our contributions include:

  • being a pilot school, for the state, in:
    • Early Literacy Inservice Course - a new approach to teaching literacy in the lower school;
    • The Queensland New Cursive handwriting;
    • Multi-age Family Grouping.
  • development of the Bardon Young Writers Workshop for aspiring young writers. This concept has been adopted as the model for other such activities across other school clusters throughout the Greater Brisbane Area.
  • In recognition of the school’s achievement in Literacy Education Bardon was chosen in 2003 by Education Queensland and the Arts Department to host the state launch of their Poetry on the Move program.
  • a proud academic and cultural record including:
    • Results which are well above State and Like School averages in national Mathematics and English competitions and in Education Queensland’s Year 3, 5 and 7 tests;
    • Placegetters in Brisbane Interschool, Somerville House and Fastrain Chess Tournaments 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007
    • Promoting cultural awareness through association with Japanese schools
    • Student visits to Japan in 2003 and 2005
    • Student Council involvement in charity work – "Red Nose Day", "Daffodil Day" etc.
    • Staff and parent involvement in "Think Pink Day"
    • Choir and Instrumental Music visits to local kindergartens and aged care facilities.
